A Book to trust #13 Books for education and adjustment

It can be very enjoyable to read an autobiography as well as to read historical books. From figures and events from the past we can learn a lot. They can be useful as examples for next generations.
Many books that deal with real people can be very readable and instructive but never give us a complete picture of the reasons for our humanity and how we can best deal with our life.  Many books from the bibliotheca or library may be informative, instructional, teachable, and docile toward our education but none gives a condensed form which can give us enough information why we exist and for what we live.

With the Bible, a Book of books, mankind has a very interesting ancient book in which the history of mankind is told in an easy manner and in which wise advise is given to help us to make the best of life. It is also a book that teaches us that the doctrine of God’s existence is essential and shows us that it is perhaps one of the most essential doctrines of all. All things around us can be seen and experienced, but God can not be seen. He is an unseen Being of which we do have to come to accept He exists, without having real tangible evidence. The God is the only One of whom we do not have exact material or visible and verifiable evidence. The evidence of His existence and more knowledge about Him we are best to find in the Bible, which we consider the infallible Word of Him.

From that book of books we can learn that the belief in The Unseen God is also critical in understanding the value of every human being. When we come to know how He created everything and what His Plan or Purpose with mankind is, we become able to see and place ourselves in the whole.

The Bible clearly teaches about some historical figures which played an important role in our present and future position. As  such we can come to learn what happened with the first human beings, commonly called Adam and Eve and what the impact was for mankind of those historical individuals especially as it pertains to the entrance of sin into the human equation.

From the book of books we also come to learn about ancient and future places. Genesis for example indicates that Eden was somewhere in what is known as Mesopotamia. Since Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden humanity’s population began growing outside the garden’s confines, but we also learn in the book of books mankind shall have the opportunity to come back in that excellent world, were there shall be no place for division, dissatisfaction and war. It is a world of peace man may look forward to. And how to reach that perfect place is also explained in the Bible.

The Bible gives answers to so many questions it has become such an indispensable book that it has become a bestseller of all times. For generations it has been a highly appreciated indispensable book. Though it has also been a book of much controversy. It is one of the literary works that have been most battled against and where for most of the resistance is still being delivered. There are enough Bible-haters on the market and they do everything to discredit the century old book.

Often people forget that there is no discrepancy between the creation account found in the Bible and the origins of the universe. One is not forced to choose between science Or the Bible, rather one can accept science And the Bible. The words

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)

is completely harmonious with the idea that the universe came into existence, because we should know somewhere there had to be a cause of the coming to existence of certain things so that everything could become into existence.

Throughout the ages lots of people have tried to disprove God, which seems even more difficult than to prove His existence and to prove an other way of the things coming into being. Science can never disprove God since God is a logical necessity for the existence of any thing.

For many it may be difficult that The God does not need a Causer, because He Himself is the Causer, the origin of everything. God is the uncaused cause and as such He needs no creator and could be the One Who brought order in the chaos which could have been there also from eternality or was also created by Him, before He put order in it. and that is where belief and faith comes in. Because The God in a way may be the Only One Thing that as such can not be proven and has to be taken by faith. al other things can in one or an other way, by archaeological or historical research or by scientific study been proven or been demonstrated.

With all the books we can come to read in our life time we can come to know certain things about our creation and about our fellow human beings., but we shall not be able to come to fully understand everything. Some things are indeed beyond our understanding. We cannot even understand everything there is to know about God. As Norman Geisler has noted,

“we can apprehend God, but never comprehend God.” {Norman L. Geisler, Systematic Theology: In One Volume (Minneapolis: Bethany House, 2011), 529.}

In this world there are people who claim that only one certain Bible would be the true Bible. Mostly than they take one bible translation from their own language, requesting that all people all over the world would learn to speak and understand their language (often English) to be able to learn the true word of God from their only true Bible. (Most known example are the ‘King James Bible only people, who often themselves do not use the original King James Bible from 1611, but all use an other version or other edition, and as such creating so many different “only King James” Bibles.)

People may not forget that if the Holy Scriptures were composed by writers who were inspired by the Most High God then it must be accepted that the final compositions of their texts were inspired, but also that The God did not speak in English and had the texts not dictated and written down in English, but also would not have restricted His Word to English speaking people of one generation only – namely those understanding the 17th century Shakespearian language.

If the inspired text of the Bible is the autographs (the finalized original writings of the Old and New Testaments), then it is vital that translators have a text that is closest to the originals and from all the sorts of translations we do find on earth it is exceptional that all different translations are telling the same things as the original documents that are still being found and uncovered.

The end of the book of Acts (folio 76r) from the Codex Alexandrinus, which has a mostly Byzantine text-type during the Gospels and is largely Alexandrian throughout the rest of the New Testament
Codex Vaticanus 354 S (028), an uncial codex with a Byzantine text, assigned to the Family K

We must know that there may exist differences between the Alexandrian and Byzantine text-types and could say that due to the fact that the Alexandrian is more accurate than the Western text type and far earlier than the Byzantine text-type., any additions added by copyists should be marked, if not deleted.

The “King James Bible only” people should know that modern translators have good reasons to prefer the Alexandrian text-type to the Western and Byzantine text-type, very often because many contemporary Bibles use as background the new found material which is much older than the material used for the King James version which also trusted on other translations and not looking at original manusscripts. The King James and New King James Versions are translations from the Byzantine text-type whereas modern translations (New American Standard, New International Version, New Living Translation, Holman Christian Standard Bible, and etc.) use the Alexandrian text-type.

We are all human beings with our own faults and as such all work we do has certain imperfections. Today’s translations are more accurate than ever due to archaeological findings of ancient Old and New Testament texts. We also should know that it is God Himself Who can take care of the consistency of His Own Word, making it possible that all over the world people in the different languages would be able to get a good translation of God His Word in their language.

When looking at all the translation work which is done over the years we can see that it is not so bad.  We even could say that most people can come to possess a very accurate Bible.

The reader can take comfort in knowing that the Old Testament matches the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient Old Testament texts to a degree of over 95%. The New Testament matches the earliest texts to a percentage of 99%. That is an overall average of 97% accuracy…and that is a conservative estimate! The Christian can be comforted in the fact that the Bible they possess is a very accurate Bible. {Pastor Brian Chilton That’s Not In My Bible: The Differences Between Translation}

It are not the books or translations which need adjustment. It are we who need adjustment. Language evolves and meaning of words changes as well are there coming knew or other words in common use. Bible translations adapt to the use of language at the time they are edited and published. But when we look at all those many Bible translations in so many different languages we may say they mainly all come to tell the one and the same thing, bringing God His message to mankind.
